Intro to (Google) Analytics

I'm planning to discuss web analytics - to illustrate a commonly accessible analytics tool - in my data mining class soon. To facilitate the discussion, I'm going to refer to the 9-minute video "Beginning Analytics: Interpreting and Acting on your Data".

It's a step-by-step introduction on understanding, interpreting, and taking action on analytics data, including the following key steps:
- The basics
- Take action
- Focus on outcomes

Hope it helps. For a more introductory tour of the Google Analytics tool itslef, this video may be more helpful:

SlideShare on your Mobile

Last week, I got an email from Slideshare about the latest from their lab: slideshare on the mobile phone. Briefly, we are told that with the new Slideshare mobile, we can:

  • View presentations- latest, featured & popular
  • Download presentation files on to your mobile
  • Login into your SlideShare account
  • Check out latest from contacts, favorite presentations etc
  • Search through all SlideShare presentations

Of course, they have - what else - a presentation about it. It's meant to be viewed with a PC, not for the mobile phone. The mobile site URL is m.slideshare.com .

The Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra (MoPHo)

I just stumbled upon the Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra (MoPhO) and it's YouTube video .

MoPho descibes itself as "a new repertoire-based ensemble using mobile phones (e.g., iPhones) as the primary musical instrument. Far beyond ring-tones, MoPhO's interactive musical works take advantage of the unique technological capabilities of today's hardware, transforming multi-touch screens, built-in accelerometers, built-in microphones, GPS, data networks, and computation into powerful and yet mobile chamber meta-instruments. "

MoPho is a creation of Ge Wang. From a Stanford article, we learn that Wang is also the founder of the Stanford Laptop Orchestra and an assistant professor of music at Stanford's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), reportedly one of the foremost computer music research centers in the world. "Mobile phones are becoming so powerful that we cannot ignore them anymore as platforms for creativity," said Wang, who sees us on the brink of a "mobile renaissance, maybe a new mobile revolution."

You've got to watch the video to better understand what they are trying to do.
